In making sense of their world, children recreate what they see, by building play houses or vehicles, taking roles shopping, repairing cars, caring for animals, or telling stories.

In this chapter, we see children working to represent chairs, buildings, and cars with cardboard, wood, and blocks. We see them ‘having tea’ together and looking after babies. We see children using pencils, scissors, paper, clay to represent what they have observed in the natural world around them.
